About Sheri Hindman-Hanley

Sheri Hindman-Hanley, LCSW, ACSW, is a licensed clinical social worker at Cognitive Behavior Institute. She completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees in the School of Child Development and Child Care and Clinical Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh. She also worked and trained at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC managing the outpatient school-based and pediatric office-based child, adolescent, and family therapy program. She also works as a Professor at Geneva College.

With over 30 years of experience as a clinical social worker/mental health clinician, she works with children, adolescents, and adults addressing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, family dynamics, and couples issues. Practicing as a clinical therapist is more than just a job to her; it is her passion and purpose. As a therapist, she incorporates various modalities based on best practice and clinical training experiences that have shaped the application of techniques that she uses in therapy. It is important that each plan be individualized, incorporating what works to reach the desired goals and outcomes of therapy, based on the medical model, best practice, and proven modalities.

The most important part of the process is the relationship and personal growth of each person, which she purposes to focus on with caring, compassion, and authenticity. I believe in a lifestyle approach to healing that incorporates mind, body, and spirit. She enjoys helping people realize that they can have victory! She and her husband have 7 children, all of whom have been home-schooled. As a family who raised 5 active boys and 2 girls, she also loves to practice healthy living and study fitness and nutrition, incorporating life coaching and sports psychology into her practice. She is also a certified group fitness instructor and Schwinn/Reebok cycling instructor. She volunteers and serves in various organizations and ministries, including VBS, inner-city ministries, and after-school programs for "at-risk" children. She also serves as a teacher for different grades and academic subjects at various homeschool co-op groups.
